ECONOMICS SYLLABUS

ECO CALENDAR ECO PROJECTS TERM TIMETABLE
2005-2006 School Year

    Dear Economics Students:
Here is a short summary of the economics course to help you complete economics  successfully and earn the 1/2 credit you need to graduate from Kerr High School.  To begin, read PAK 1, "What is Economics?" very carefully because you will learn how to begin the performance tasks and complete the PAKS.

We have attempted to create an economics course which will equip you to deal with economics as an adult without driving you too crazy while you are still in high school.  The work is constant, but not difficult.  Because we only have nine weeks to finish this course, there are some course rules designed to help keep you on task.
                    1.  You may have only one PAK in your possession at a time.
                    2.  You may turn in only one PAK per day for a grade.
                    3.  You may take only one economics test per day.
                    4.  You may retake any failed test within one week of receiving the test grade.
                    5.  The highest grade for a retest and for late work after two days is a 70.

bullet PAK work – There are 15 PAKs in economics for Term 2, which means you will complete 2 PAKs per week during the nine week course.  That gives you about 2.5 days to complete each PAK. Check the calendar you were given and/or the website calendar for deadlines and due dates.

1)     Complete all of the Guided Reading and Review activities included at the end of each PAK.

2)     Complete the Section Assessment activities at the end of each section in the chapter.

3)     Read your PAK carefully for any additional questions or mini projects you must complete for the PAK.

bullet Computer Modules – Some of the PAKs have computer modules which accompany them.  These modules are a separate grade from the daily work.  Turn them in stapled to the back of your PAK work. Be sure to list the computer module separately on the turn in sheet.  Computer modules may be completed with a group of two or three other economics students.
bullet Videos – Some PAKs will require you to watch a video.  These may be checked out from the counter and watched in the center.  They may not be checked out to take home.
bullet Mini Projects – In some PAKs you will find a small project which requires you to do more than just answer questions.  These will count as quiz grades and are usually individual projects.
bullet Tests – You will take a test over each chapter that you study.  Review the key terms and Chapter Assessment material at the end of each chapter before you go to take the test.  Although this material will not be turned in for a grade, it will serve as your test review.
bullet Performance Tasks - Journal, Budget Blues, Stock Market Simulation
