In addition to completing the PAKs listed below, make sure you attend the scheduled seminars and take the tests listed in each Learning Activities section. PAK 4: The Age of Absolutism: Setting the Stage for Revolution ( Term 1 is one week shorter than usual in Session 1of 2004. Therefore, this PAK will be completed in Term 2.) Because of the Reformation and the Age of Exploration, Europe experienced religious, economic, and political turmoil. To deal with these crises, European rulers increased their power. They claimed God gave them the authority, using an argument known as the “divine right of kings.” This consolidation of power set the stage for revolution and new governmental forms, including democracy. Chapter 17 is studied in PAK 4 over a period of 5 days. This PAK has only one section and individual daily deadlines will be assigned. Required activities:

This revolution began in the 1700s when power-driven machines began to perform much of the work that people had done before. Today, we call this the Industrial Revolution and Imperialism.
