Physics and Pre-AP Physics

Course Description-

 411 Physics IA & IB (and Pre-AP)
Prerequisites:
     A. Grades 10-12
     B. Algebra II
Credit: One (state)
This lab-oriented course investigates the physical laws of nature, including laws of      motion, forces, energy, electricity, magnetism, and waves.

Pre-AP Physics - The same class as Physics 1, but with the additional demands of an open ended project and an emphasis on the curriculum needed to be successful in an AP level class.

Supplies-

Calculators are recommended for daily work and for the final exam.  The testing center provides calculators for all PAK tests.  A protractor will be useful after the unit on vectors.  Pre-AP students will need to provide all materials for completion of their final design project.

Seminars-

Many of the seminars are "virtual seminars" that are on CD-ROM at the science center front counter.  Check out a computer and a CD.  Some live seminars will be given, especially at the beginning and end of each 9 week session.  Attendance at these seminars are highly recommended as we will usually be covering not only chapter material but also lab information and other course requirements.

Grading Policy-

Students will follow the grading policies as laid out for the science department:
  1. Regular PAK Grades:
bulletAssignments :                     15% of PAK Grade
    bulletLabs:                                 35% of PAK Grade
    bulletTests:                                50% of PAK Grade
  2. Late Grades:
bulletOne day late:  PAK will be picked up and graded for completion.  Maximum grade is 75.
  3. Final Term Grade:
bullet80% of Grade is taken from 9 Week Average
bullet20% of Grade is taken from  Final Exam

For AP Physics:

AP Physics B -  A college level course intended for those wishing to take the AP Physics B exam.  This exam is intended for those desiring college credit in physics, but not majoring in science or engineering.  Typically pre-Med students follow this curriculum.

AP Physics C - A college level course intended for those wishing to take the AP Physics C exam. This exam is intended for those desiring college credit applicable to a science or engineering program.
